Private Jets: Gulfstream G550

The US-American company Gulfstream Aerospace has always been a trendsetter in the field of private aviation. With the Ultra Long Range Jet Gulfstream G550, the Savannah-based aircraft manufacturer set new standards.

The Milestones of the Gulfstream G550

Gulfstream plays an important role in the history of business jets. The success began shortly after the Second World War, when the American military engineering company Grumman Engineering was commissioned to develop an aircraft designed exclusively for business aviation. This was the birth of the Gulfstream family.

The first model, a turboprop aircraft, was initially called Grumman Gulfstream I and was sold over 200 times to the military as well as to private individuals. In the 1970’s, Grumman launched the Gulfstream II, a jet with Gulfstream’s typical oval windows, which became one of the most successful business jets of all times.

In 1985, Chrysler acquired the company and founded “Gulfstream Aerospace”, which is still operating today.

The G550 was developed and built as a follow-up model to the Gulfstream V, enjoying a larger cabin and a significantly longer range. Thus, you can fly nonstop from continental Europe to the American West Coast.

Characteristics of the aircraft

The cabin of the Gulfstream G550 has four different passenger areas with three different climate zones. The night configuration allows for 5 to 6 comfortable beds. Satellite telephone and internet are available on board as well.

As a special feature of the Gulfstream G550 there are the 14 large windows in the passenger area as well as the EVS camera on the nib bottom edge of the fuselage. The comfortable cabin provides ample space for 14 to 16 passengers.

The maximum flight distance of 12,500 km is bridged with an average cruising speed of 910 km/h.
